Melbourne - Lanes Pt. II

While waiting for and drinking one cup of coffee, one was subjected to several mini-dramas being played out, each with a unique narrative. Lit naturally by the morning winter's light, and leakages of tungsten and halogen and fluorescent from windows and doors, each singular moment compels and seduces.

One should wait and just watch, and if one is lucky, one gets to record. One location, one morning, and a nice cup of coffee is all one needs.

Melbourne - Lanes Pt. 1

Flinders Way is one of many unassuming yet hugely interesting lanes that form a delicate network of intrigue and entertainment in Melbourne. People work, eat, play, love, live, drink coffee, smoke and busk in these lanes.

All these images were shot during the same session, whilst drinking coffee, smoking and playing in the lane. The light, on a clear bright winter's morning, is clean and playful, bouncing off windows, coffee machines, interplaying with neon, fluorescent tubes, tungsten bulbs and halogens.

Lane culture started it all in Melbourne, and it's spread to Sydney. Adelaide needs to catch up.
